Hi, I'm new here. My first car was a black Standard 8 and I loved it. So simple!
My big passion is slot cars. There is now a resin model of a Standard 8 and I have to have one and get it running. My question is this, did the 8 ever run in the Monte Carlo Rally? If you know of a photo too that would be great.

Standard 8s and 10s both private and works supported competed in the Monte from '54 to '59!
To answer the question Standard 8s competed in the '54 and '55 Monte.
I have a picture of one of the cars OOE 379 which was a privateer. If someone can tell me the best way of uploading it I'll stick it on.
Out of interest where can one buy a resin Standard 8 and who makes them???

Hi Graham, it's Jim from SF. I was going to put up all the details of the slot car kit on here in the next day or two.
Tony, the outfit producing the 8/10 slotcar are called Penelope Pitlane. It was announced yesterday but is already on their website. Google should find them. To upload pictures you will need to first host them on a picture hosting site. I use photobucket, but there are others that are also free. Then you upload the URL to here. If it's easier, you could e-mail me the picture and I will put it up. I'd like a copy myself anyway.
Jim

Oh, and if you want advice on how to turn one of these resin castings into a slot car or static model, just ask me. Many thanks all.

I've found the website, here's their model. The model represents a 1955 Standard 10, PRW 532, that Sir Stirling Moss raced at Oulton Park in August 27 1955 in the Sporting Life Trophy coming second in class. There is a picture of the car on page 184 of the book "Stirling Moss All my races". Sir Stirling writes "I drove a loaned Standard 10 in this minor race. I liked Standards and, for road use, I owned a Standard 8, into which Alf Francis had fitted a well tuned 10-spec engine. It was a nice enough little car but never handled as well as my previous car - a Morris Minor" PRW 532 was in fact a works rally car that had competed in the '55 Monte, '56 RAC and '56 Alpine winning an Alpine cup.

Can someone with an 8 confirm or deny the correctness of the chrome trim on the front, for a '55 car? I somehow thought that was the later style...

I think the chrome moulding which followed the contour of the lip over the radiator aperture to the front on 55 8s was a factory optional extra. There was also an independent manufacturer's chrome piece which went round the aperture with a bar across similar to the one on the 10 but smaller.Several examples survive. Just to confuse the issue some cars had accident repairs or enthusiastic owners who obtained extra bits of chrome either from the factory if they worked there or from dealers' stock and ended up with the technically incorrect front for their model which is probably why Conan Lewis' Family 10 has an 8 Gold Star grille with the chrome moustache above it which 8 Gold Stars didn't have. There are no doubt numerous other such examples. It's part of the rich history of the cars. Great photos Tony - who owns the copyright?
Whose Standard 10 will Rauno Aaltonen be driving?

Whoops, copyright info added.
I don't know about the car, I'm guessing that it's Lloyd McNeil's
