Hi Ian
Thanks for your reply, I have two photos of a very rusty PH2 with cab only and chassis rails at back, this of course could be the result of rear end accident damage then another owner fitting a wooden back which has rotted away. Thanks for other info, I have already written my PH3 pages and know of the chassis / cab option ( going from Vanguard to Ensign then Vignale fronts ), but you mention a PH3 van, this is new info for me, I know a bolt-on aluminium canopy was available but not a van by Standard, please tell me more.
( I would post photos but don't know how, 'insert image' just inserts text 'img', browse button I can find my photo but it won't load on my post .... I'm thick I know, soz ).
ALSO WANTED STANDARD 10 COMMERCIAL INFO NEXT, I DON'T THINK THE 8 WAS MADE AS A COMMERCIAL WAS IT .
Thanks Gary

There is a Phase 2 diesel estate car being restored at the John Mould commercial collection near Reading. There are also a phase 1A long back pick up and van there. The Polish van with windows I mentioned earlier also had a diesel engine but of a later Standard type though this appears to have replaced the original diesel. I believe the Lakeland Motor Museum has a van but whether diesel or petrol I'm not sure. As for the 8 it was never made as a commercial as far as I'm aware.Commercials were denoted either 6 or 7 cwt and not as 10s or Pennants in the brochures though the 6cwt had a 10 badge.I've seen a late (1963 or 4) 7cwt pick upwith Pennant type front end ,now in N.Ireland, with a blank where the 10 would have been on the badge for a saloon. The late vans and pick ups with Pennant type front ends only had wings and front panels in common with the Pennant and nothing else. Peter Lockley

Hi Gary,Have corrected posting. It should read "estate" not van. The only van I can find in my brochures isa an artist impression of a gown van on a Phase 3 chassis cab.
I do not believe the 8 was offered in van form. Tony Pounder is the 8/10 expert. Regards Ian

Ian, Peter's email above covers the commercial equivalent of the 8/10 range. Additionally I believe the 7cwt version had a larger-than-948cc engine but I can't quite remember what size they were. Out of interest, since the 7cwt was produced alongside the Triumph Herald, when did the Triumph Courier start production?
EDIT: Answered my own questions. 1147cc, and 1962.

Hi Peter / Ian
Great posts and many thanks for your help, it all helps me slog away at the old commercial stuff which is a bit like trying to knit fog.
Hi Phil
Yes, the later 7 cwt had the 1147cc unit from the Herald, the Courier went into production in February 1962 along with the Herald Estate, sadly the Courier was vastly over-priced with less load space against what was already available.
Thanks Gary

Hi, I have just bought a Vanguard Van Phase 1 of 1951 to restore (built in Belgium - Nessonvaux) I have a basic question : is the chassis number also visible on the frame ? Thanks a lot Marc,

Hi Marc, The chassis will not have a number. When the body was put on a Commission Number plate would be fixed to the bulkhead which is the whole vehicle number. That number and the engine number are the only numbers normally on the vehicle and all that the UK licensing dept require. Regards Ian.
