I wouldn't think it would be all that difficult to convert, but I admit I'm curious as to why you would want to?

I agree. Surely if it is giving you trouble the question should be is there anyone who can help with fixing it? Standrive is so rare these days that getting rid of it would surely just devalue the car.

Does anyone know how many Standrive cars are currently on the road? If I leave the Standrive clutch in mine - will a scruffy 10 be worth a fortune?

You'll never make a fortune from a normal Standard 10 but the rarity of Standrive surely makes it worth preserving and more saleable.Funny things are happening at auctions at present with cars fetching increased prices and then disappearing into the hands of collectors so if you got 2 at an auction who wanted a Standrive the price could well be a lot higher than an ordinary 10,the like of which feature on Ebay and Classic Car Weekly every week. Is the car which started this thread that which formerly belonged to Mike Wilkes and the late Ted Hilton from Leamington, affectionately known as "The Mushy Pea" by Ted ? if so it would be a tragedy to see it converted. Hi All
Thanks for the comments the answer is it is Mushy Pea. I bought it of Mike Wilkes its a bit rough around the edges but is a very unusual car, The reason for the question is i find it a little hard to drive due a problems with my hands But im going to keep on trying
If not it will go up for sale so if anyone is interested please leave information
I will not be converting it to manual, i agree it needs to be left alone due to the rarity of the car Regards Richard

I know this thread is 8 years old buy I have a Standard Pennant left hand drive with Standrive. Pretty rough shape but drives. I am NOT a mechanic and am learning as I go. Seems like the vacuum clutch system is a bit wonky. To find anyone that knows anything about it might be tough.

Well, that’s something as a club member in Scotland recently converted one to a rally car, which was thought to be the only Standrive Pennant. His is RHD but is no longer fitted with Standrive. So good to know yours exists, it might be unique! There are people out there (not me) who have manuals and so on. Good luck with it. Whereabouts in the world are you?

If needed, I could probably copy at least those pages relevant to the Standrive and get them to you somehow (BTW, I think you and I have corresponded via email?); let me know here or email me if you're interested!

hi all especialy edward paul, yes threr are persons who know how standrive works perhaps you could describe your symptoms is the vacuum system sound ie without leaks how would you tell well, the vacuum co es from the inlet manifold storedunderthe nearside wing in a tank similar to that used on a mark two jaguar for the brakes, ie you could use that part, there is a two way or one way valve on the tank ie it has two connections but only one direction of flow? a clear probably brown piece of thick wall plastic pipe< vacuum> goes to a servo cylinder in the place of the clutch slave cylinder on a manual car .if there were a leak the car would probably run badly. if the tank is rusted out you could almost certainly temporarily repair it with acomplete covering jacket of fibreglass matting soaked in resin or even cotton bedsheet soaked in f/glass resin suggest several layers.there is a switch on the gearlever which controls a solenoid valve allowing vacuum to operate the servo which moves the clutch release bearing via an arm. in addition the clutch cover has centrifugal actually the wrong scientific term weights which splayn out and allow the clutch to engage. so raise the revs above fast idle and with the gear knob switch released in gear the car should move accelerating with engine speed.there are other adjustments on the carburettor linkage to raise engine speedwhilst changing gear details in the olysanger book on eight ten and pennants and supplement in workshop manual and drivers hand book that is all i know .in terms of convertion yes and you could build a hybrid retaining the clutch assembly and cnangig the servo for a master and slave senarion ,good luck finding a clutch pedal but the pedal mountig shaft etc will be on the car the club can supply the master and slave make your own pipe rigid then fexible going to the slave, flexible,no going back to correct. doing it this way would save taking out the engineand give a very interestin clutch control or not system.the friction plate i recon you cuold use a standard manual type but it would be trial and error or have you present part relined if worn the cover with weights i think is probably out of finding but with the internet who mknows? ask the club if not a member join now they give their knowledge without question to members if you are too tight to join not politically correct i know but i do care about these guys who deserve all the thankks we can give, well good, luck phil
