PRESS RELEASE The Standard Motor Club Agrees To Support the Members of the Vanguard I/II Club
The Vanguard I/II Club has agreed to transfer its spares to the Standard Motor Club and as part of this arrangement the SMC is offering reduced-rate memberships to previous members of the Vanguard I/II Club. With the agreement of the Vanguard I/II Club, the SMC is writing to all of the Vanguard I/II Club’s members to advise them of these revised arrangements. The Vanguard Club’s Website and Internet Forum will be closed. The expanded Club is confident that the increase in membership will enhance services to all Vanguard I and II owners and strengthen support for the Standard marque as a whole. Further information is available from: Peter Lockley chairman@standardmotorclub.org.uk 01926 813240 28th August 2014

Good news I'm sure for all Vanguard owners, and a warm welcome to I/II Club members. Does anyone know anything about the Phase 3 owners club? - its website is still up but doesn't appear to have been touched for several years.
There aren't that many Vanguards around that we won't benefit from combining our knowledge and resources.

Loyal to Standards since 1986. Aware of and impressed by Standards since 1953. Regular use of Vanguard Phase 2 amounting to over 250,000 since owning. A thoroughly usable car and a joy to drive. Good news and makes a lot of sense to combine all under one Club. Welcome to all Vanguard Club members and hope we can see you with your cars on the rally scene. Regards Ian.

I am glad to hear this, no point in operating separately.
Out of interest, does anyone know what the paid up membership of the Standard Vanguard 1& 2 club, was at the time of the amalgamation ?

Not very many! I don't know exactly but the low number was one of the reasons for the transfer.

Since the Vanguard I/II club was largely inactive there were not many "paid up" members , but there were a large number of previous/lapsed members. Over 170 members have been written to (as described in the press release) to tell them about the services of the Standard Motor Club and inviting them to take advantage of the services offered.
We want to help them keep their Vanguards on the road and new applications have started coming in.
2 and half tonnes of Vanguard Spares were collected and put in the SMC stores over the weekend. I would like to thank everyone that helped load and unload the vans at both ends. vanguard owners should be grateful to these hard working volunteers. The increased range of spares is now available from the Vanguard spares officer, Peter Foster. His contact details are available through the "Standard Car review", our monthly full colour magazine or from the Club's Website.
A big welcome to all Vanguard owners, we look forward to your contributions on this forum and your cars at Standard events
