Hi guys. Back in 1958 a guy used standard 10 mechanicals and a replica AC Bristol body to build an Australian sportscar. He made 6-8. i have the first one made, purchased from the son of the original owner. I am missing twin carbs. Any ideas. Thanks. Brian

Hard to say what might have been used. Early Triumph Herald 948 twin-carb engines used SU H1 carbs, but some tuners back in the late 1950s might have used SU H2 carbs, depending on the state of tune.
Any chance you can post some pictures of the car? Sounds fascinating!

I have Buchanan Cobra number 3 and have recently restored it after having it for 10 years and regularly racing in in Victoria with the Victorian Historic Racing Register. I run a Spitfire 1147 motor bored out to 1200cc and putting out around 100BHP at the flywheel. I use a pair of 1 1/2" SUs very effective. Can somebody gell me how to load photographs onto this site???

There's a Pennant in the club which has a twin carb conversion, I think this was an after-market kit which was available. I don't know what sort of carbs it has but this might give you some clues. I don't think the owners use the forum though so you might like to write to the club's magazine to widen the audience a bit.
It'll be 948cc not 998cc by the way. Assuming the engine number starts BE...?

I have a copy of a 1956 article from Autosport detailing a Laystall-Alexander conversion kit for Standard 8s and 10s. This conversion did not invalidate the Standard Company guarantee, and is probably the one Phil's referring to above. The article confirms that twin SUs were used but does not give size. This of course doesn't confirm your Buchanan would have had SUs but probably makes it likely. Mike
