Hello.
I’m new to the club and this is my first post. I’ve just bought my first Standard (a pre-war Flying 8, first regd in Apr 1940).
I have two questions which I’m hoping you can help me with:
1. Can someone recommend a good garage in Yorkshire which is experienced in working on Standards (or, at the very least, vintage cars)? FYI I live in the Wakefield/Barnsley area.
2. The gearstick gaiter has perished. The club site doesn’t appear to stock them. Has anyone found gaiters for other cars that fit Flying 8s and, if so, where from please?
Thanks in advance.
James

Hi
I live near junction 36 of the M62 and have found RS Motors of Goole to be very honest, reliable and willing to go the "extra mile". They were excellent in servicing and overhauling the brakes on my Flying eight. My car doesn't have a gearstick gaiter just carpet.

Hello James, Jim's suggestion may hopefully be of use to you and let's hope turn out to be just what you are looking for.
The garage route is fine IF there isn't an alternative, but the much better alternative is a local knowledgeable enthusiast - if you can find one - and this may be your better option quest.
This forum, and the club, may be able to point you in the direction of such a person. If not,or in any case, it could be well worth contacting/joining a local area classic car club, since there, you are almost guaranteed to find/someone who knows of such a person. Good luck and kind regards, Gareth.

Dear Jiml and Magnet,
Thank you for each of your replies. From what I can find, there don't appear to have been many Standard events in Yorkshire (which suggests few owners in the area), so a local classic car club is probably the best bet in the first instance. I'll give that a whirl and will see how we get on!
Best wishes
James
