In 1936 a "Flying Standard" was the star prize at the Belfast Ideal Home Exhibition (or the cash equivelant of £259)
In order to celebrate the exhibition's 70th anniversary we wish to display a "Flying Standard" car at the forthcoming exhibition. We request any of the Club's members who would know of a colleague with such a vehicle close to, or located in Northern Ireland and who would be interested in having it displayed and celebrated publicly, to make contact with me (David Robinson) at email address davidr@exclaim.co.uk. or alternatively to call 028 9041 0006

Can you please let us know the date of this event. If it is later in the year we can advertise through our Club Magazine as many of our older members are not on computer contact. If it is soon then members would have to contacted by phone. The deadline for our next magazine is 6th February so please let us know by then on this site and it will be picked up. regards Ian.

Ian, thanks for coming back.
The dates for the show are Sept 7 - 11 2005. The star prize we referred to related to the 1936 exhibition rather than the 1935, the latter date being the one that we are celebrating. As we have no records for 1935, we hope that Standard cars and in particular the Flying Standard - were around in 1935.

Hi. The Flying Standard was introduced in 1936, but that normally means at the Motor Show held in the preceding September so your show in September may be ideal for a 1936 model Flying Standard. I will advertise this item for you in our Club Magazine and hopefully you will get a response. I did send the information to a member on this website with the ideal car for you but I am not sure where he resides. Best Wishes Ian.

click on this link and you will find contact details for our Membership Sec ( he is tardy in answering emails!). Call him and he will be able to advise you from our database if we have active members in NI with a Flying Standard, that you can approach. www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/club/contacts.htmPhil

A member in short trousers, like you obviously. When you are old and grey you might become a 4 star member like me! Mind you, you will dribble, snore and forget things - being a 4 star member isn't all a bed of roses you know!

Self promotion is what exhibitions are all about. We can discuss and agree details in due course.
