If this is to be a hobby car (ie second) car the fully comp should be about £60 per year but you will need to quote a Standard Motor Club Membership number. It pays therefore to join the Club. Spares are available for most of your needs, panels will often need repairing rather than replaced but donor cars do come along. Mechanical etc parts o.k. Regards Ian Leggett.

Hello Again. If you have not bought a car yet, but are decided on a Standard it is a good idea to join the Club first as many cars change hands within the Club. Also try to take a drive of one of them to ensure you feel at home in it as the driving position is not to everyones taste /especially if you are very tall. Try to get the best you can afford, rather than a very cheap car which needs a lot spent on it later. £1000 should get you a nice one with 12 months Mot, sometimes they do get sold for £850 in similar condition within the Club. Interiors can be costly so look for a tidy one. Any other help you need just post a reply here, or you can join us by downloading a Membership form on the Club page and advertise for your needs in the magazine, Happy motoring. Regards Ian.

Just a note to say that there is no such thing as a 5 door Standard 10 so I hope you are looking for a four door. Insurance prices depend on the risk you pose to our preferred insurance company and where you live of course. Ian neglected to say that your policy will be for an "agreed value" to, so if you claim there is no quibble about payout. Also gives free breakdown recovery in the UK and throughout Europe so you can confidently run your Standard 10 as far as Prague for the same price!

By the way, I am tall at 6' 2" and a Standard 10 fits me fine!

I have found Footman James are good, they include free breakdown recovery which is also very useful. I have used the breakdown service more than once and they are quick, if they can't fix it on the spot, they tell you how so that you can give it a go yourself. If you are a Standard member there is a discount.
