Dear members in club, Since I became a member in this club, I have asked for help in locating parts for my 1939 STD, Flying 8 Tourer, but so far NO ONE has responded to me. I don't mind belonging to an auto club, but you know when you've got such a rare car and parts are extremely hard to come by it is a bit annoying when you get NO HELP . I would appreciate someone who knows this car to respond to me. Shane York, Oklahoma, USA

Hi Shane. As you have said you have a very rare car and spares are somewhat difficult. With this site the number of people looking and able to help are small, this is largely that the owners of this era of car are the older generation who are not very computer literate, but they are the owners who may be able to help you. so the answer is to advertise directly to the membership through the Club Magazine by sending a list of your needs to the Editor directly. There is a member in Alaska with a car similar to yours who may be of help also, again contact through the review is the more effective way. We do not have a spares officer up and running for this car type as yet but one of the Committee is about to view a quantity over the next few weeks and there may be some useful items. I am not a spares man but if you would re list what you need in a reply message I will keep an ear open, but the direct to Editor contact is the best way forward. regards Ian Leggett.

Hi Shane,
Your original message was mixed in with the welcome message. So was eventually locked. Therefore as you have not registered as a message board member, but as a guest. Answers are hard to post. You are more likely to get replies if you register, as some members do not like to post, but will contact.
What were your quries ?
Bye

Shane,
You can see that the audience isn't very big by the small number of views there are. The number of views with the same model of car is smaller still and the number with spares even smaller than that
We have all been here, use the suggestions you have been given here.
I dont have your model, but if you post a list I too will keep a look out at autojumbles
Hope that helps,
Regards,
Phil

Message to Ian Leggett, Many thanks for your astute remarks and timely info.
Regards my '39 Flying Eight Tourer, was this car body built by Avon? If so, What is Avon's history? Can this car's history be traced as to where it was shipped after leaving the factory and to what dealership in UK or US? Does the club have access to any Engineering drawings from historical records or UK patent office? Did Avon mfgr. their own top frames or buy them?
Regards the other two Standards, I am forwarding pics of them to Phil by post. We have not aquired them as yet but hope to soon. What do you think they may be worth? Both appear to be basically complete but need restoration. Are they also fairly rare?
Sincerely, Shane York

Hi Shane. Lots of questions here. I will be seeing Phil on 10th Ocyober by which time he should have received your photos so will put replies together then. Avon did build some drophead tourers and Standard later copied the design so it is not clear cut. Phil will have better knowledge of this era of Standards than me. As you will see there are 2 other members logged into your questions now so by replying you will attract more input. The comment from Peter Lee as a Avon owner is worth following through also. Regards Ian. ps commission numbers and engine numbers will assist in ID.

Shane,
Better send me a picture of your "Flying 8 Tourer" too. This is almost certain to be factory, not Avon, however.
Before purchasing any further Standards you might like to wait to see what we know about them already! Regards
Phil

Shane: Well, at least I now know of at least one other Standard owner here in the USA. I can not be of help on parts but only moral support. Our car is a 1931 Standard Avon Special Landau Sport Coupe Mk II. Gee, maybe we should start a USA Standard Club. Our car is fully restored and we drive it at least 2,000 miles per year. Russ from Iowa.
