I shan't be booking in to the hotel Richard, but I will be popping in and joining in on the road runs if thats OK. It'll give Bertie a nice run out each day of about 40 miles each way.
Do I need to book in for that?

Yes please, The rally entry fee covers the cost of the programme, rally momento, roadrun route instructions and there are prizes. There are also small, discounted entry fees for the aircraft and bus museums. Thanks, Phil

Hello all
Is there any info on the dates for the 2018 big rally?
I’m asking because I’d like to be there however even now my calendar is filling up with other events.

Stop Press - International Rally News Due to unprecedented interest in the event, the base hotel for the rally, Mercure Walton Hall, has sold out of accommodation at our negotiated rates. It is possible that some rooms may become available at the end of April. If you wish to stay at Walton Hall please contact the hotel to check availability and rates after 30th April - phone 01789 842424. Please let me know if they can accommodate you: Lynda Homer secretary@standardmotorclub.org.uk
Alternatively you could book bed and breakfast accommodation elsewhere in the area and join us at Walton Hall for the Friday night buffet and/or the Saturday night dinner, using the entry form to be published in the May Standard Car Review or online at our Webshop. Please book these meals by 7th June.
A suggested alternative hotel is the Charlecote Pheasant, less than four miles from Walton Hall. Advance payment B & B for a double room starts at £145 for the two nights, 22 and 23 June, on booking.com at the time of writing. The hotel told me that they would honour the booking.com rates as published on the day you make the reservation. If you wish to book call 01789 279954, speak to their reception and quote ‘Standard Motor Club’.
Please email me to let me know if you are staying at the Charlecote Pheasant or at another hotel in the area. A further update about the rally will appear in the May Standard Car Review. Lynda Homer The Standard International Rally 2018

Pretty miffed as you will see
I popped in to the SMC annual gathering today. I followed the troop to Studley Castle, giving a lift to an SMC couple who's car had broken down along the way. When we arrived at the Castle car park I was told in fairly short shrift I could not join the members and had to park away from the group in the public area because I didn't prebook. Got the impression I was so very not welcome. Needless to say I left and headed back home. Could not be bothered to argue the point. I had not pre-booked due to family commitments so had confirmed a couple of days ago it was OK to turn up unannounced. I fully expected to pay my way but it was a bit of a nasty shock to be told like that. Feeling pretty p'ed off about it really.

I think the 'its Ok to turn up unannounced ' phrase refers to the Sunday event, which takes place in the rally field usually adjacent to the hotel used over the weekend. Sorry to hear of your disappointment, though.

On the contrary Phil. The statement was pretty clear
“No objection at all if you come along on Saturday Mark. However we'll be leaving for the road run to Sudeley Castle between 9.30 and 10.30 returning to Walton Hall as and when people wish to leave.....”

I was standing at the gate to the pre-booked parking area when you arrived and you were merely told that you had to pay and enter the grounds via the adjacent public entrance (The castle's rules not SMC). Once paid and entered you could then return to the gate and enter the pre-booked parking area. You were told all this perfectly politely and had you listened maybe you would not be posting such an inaccurate account of what happened.

Steve
I do have fairly good hearing thank you Steve.
and yes I did indeed listen. As did the welsh gent sat beside me and his wife behind. I was told quite categorically and in no uncertain terms that, because I had not pre-booked, I nor my car were allowed into the 'SMC' enclosure. If I wished to enter the castle I should pay at the castle public entrance (quite rightly) and my car should be parked in the 'public' parking area.
We were also informed the coffee, on tables under the trees, would be served at 11am but was specifically only for those who had pre-booked.
The man and lady I had given a lift to got out of the car, after I pulled in to allow the que to clear, and asked if I might be at the evening meal so we could talk further. They clearly felt I was not going to be allowed to visit with the group.
I understand the idea of closing ranks. However please keep the story straight.
