Thinking back years ago there was an issue with the profile of the windscreen rubbers and in the 1980's I had a devil of a job to get a proper rubber for the windscreen on my '55 8. Does anyone know if this issue of different profiles also affects the rear window? The club website only mentions a difference in length for the large rear window in the later cars. Probably worth checking before ordering, may also be worth haveing a chat with Tony Pounder at 8n10 spares to see if he knows of any issues.

Tony pounders seals come from a custom mould he has made, most definitely a better fit and a better purchase 👍

Hello atlasboy1960, you are wrong to assert that the Club's rear screen rubber does not fit. I have just fitted one to a 1956 Super Ten, that's the smaller windowed variety. I followed the instructions in the Service Instruction Manual precisely but I did have two assistants outside the car to push, whilst one person was inside the car. Anyone who has lingering doubts can inspect my car, TOH 157. What about the larger screen on a "Goldstar" car I hear you ask? Well, I fitted one of those as well just a couple of months back. The rubber profile is the same, its just a little bit longer. And that fitted perfectly too. Not only can members buy the rear screen rubber confidently from the Standard Motor Club's webshop but you can also purchase the Service Instruction Manual from there too. It will also assist in many other areas. It is available here: www.standardmotor.club/service-instruction-manual-factory-publication-standard-8-and-10-lh-7564Phil Homer

I think other members of this Forum should be aware that atlasboy1960 has NEVER purchased a window seal of any kind from the Club and so is clearly NOT commenting from personal experiences. The Club's Rear Windscreen Seals are supplied by one of the countries leading suppliers who list Aston Martin, Bentley and Jaguar in their Classic Car ranges. I have a Club Rear Seal in my Standard 8 fitted over 10 years ago and the immaculate condition of the headlining and interior is testament to the fact that they fit and seal. Stephen George 8 and 10 Spares Manager.

It certainly does not fit mine i had a gentleman with 35 years installing classic and modern vehicle windscreens and it bam boozled him. For a club thats about a working mans car there doesnt seem to be much sharing of knowledge on here unless you "purchase" another instruction manual. I was under the illusion that membership of a club was to help each other. But instead seems to be about showcasing one or two standards and expensive meeting at top notch hotels. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I could be wrong 😊

Sorry folks, when we first got the Companion my daughter got a new front screen from the club, and a seal for the air vent. Neither fitted. The screen seal IS in the car but the profile was wrong, it had to go in the old seal was shot and we had just re-sprayed the car. The vent seal was too small and too hard a rubber for the job, it wasn’t fitted.
Because the car needs another re-spray, thanks to vandals I contacted the club again for samples of the screen seal to check the profile and compare it to the old seal we took out. I also contacted the following to get some samples, which they supplied.
C O H Baines 01892 543311 sales@coh-baines.co.uk
In the end, because the Club had changed the profile and composition of the front seal my daughter got another seal (still to be fitted) from the Club. We still have to source a correct seal for the vent.
I have fitted numerous screen seals to different cars over the decades so I wasn't new to the task.

ukmarc,
It is not necessary to purchase the factory manual just to get the seal to fit. (you might find it useful for every likely task) As a fellow club member I will copy the relevant page and email it to you. As I have said, the manual says that you need help from a person to push the window in, I found that it required a liberal dose of washing up liquid around it (that isn't mentioned) and two people to push, one on each side of the outside of the glass.

The vent seal was too small and too hard a rubber for the job, it wasn’t fitted. I can’t comment on the screen seals (mine were from the club but years ago) but for the scuttle vent, I am not 100% sure but I think there may be two different sizes, so maybe the one you have was never intended for your car. At leat one of the sizes matches one of the Triumph TRs; I picked up a new seal for mine from a stall at a show years ago long before the club offered them and it was being sold as a Triumph item.
