Hi has anyone seen the Companion for sale on Car and Classic. Is the price over inflated or about correct. What are peoples thoughts. Thanks.

If the description is correct, and the pictures don't show anything to contradict it, then although the price is at what I would say is at the top end for a 50's Standard it is not outrageous. As with all cars, buyer beware, and paying that sort of money I would expect it to be perfect in all respects with no little bits that need sorting out. I would like a good look underneath and a full photographic documentation of its restoration - mechanics (engine etc.) as well as bodywork. So in short, if it is what it says it is then maybe the price is a little high, but I suspect that is to allow for negotiation. There have been a number of the more common saloons going for nearly half that and some commercials nudging £7 - £8k, as well as a lot of rough cars in the £2 to £3k region.
The companion is rare and they don't come up that often, certainly not in that condition. Go have a look and a haggle, its the end of the season (if there was one this year!) and coming into winter so could be a good time to buy.
Just my opinion!

It does look a nice example & not many of that particular version about, single rear door but without the Pennant front end. The reg number is not visible, I suspect the original reg number may have been sold & a DVLA age related one substituted, which to many people devalues a car, may give a bit more room to haggle!!

I saw it about 6 weeks ago and the price is still the same. It looks a nice car but as Pete says (and knowing the classic trade) you are probably only seeing what they want you to see in the advert.
I did wonder if this was the car that was advertised on there last year by the owner for 8k and then quickly removed and replaced at a dealers for 13k. I thought that was Kent/Sussex way though. That had been expensively restored and was the same colour and also pre-Pennant styling, which I prefer.
Edit;
Wow! Did I just say last year? I just found the previous thread about an expensive Companion from December 2015! It was in Orpington and claimed to be 1955, but the non-original number and side chrome strips and grille originality were questioned.

It could be the same car as Misterm saw, I saw a similar car on ebay (probably same car given the location) going for £14.5k last year, so the price is coming down.
Looks nice, have a look then if you get it we can start our own Companion group!
One thing to look out for (apart from mechanics but then you know the car) are the rear window rubber, the profile doesn't exist to replace them, the Claytonrite in the rear screen is available in white from a firm in Leeds.
Take care.
