This is a request to the Moderators. I have a thread for my Atlas restoration (see signature) which is on the "Commercials" part of the forum. Would it be possible please to make the thread visible to those who aren't signed up to our Standard forum? Perhaps the thread could be moved to the "General" section? Being a member of some Triumph clubs, I include a link to this thread in my signature on those forums. Of course, people who follow the link can't see the Atlas restoration unless they have signed up, which they probably won't do since they don't own a Standard themselves. I've just had someone mention this, who has been posting lots of old photos of the factory and competition events on the TSSC forum. It turns out he likes Atlas's and has a couple of photos of the Triumph competition team support Atlas. If anyone's interested you can see the Period Photos thread here. Cheers, Richard

Lets all be honest here, the forum boards would be better being read only to visitors, you get less people signing up to a board you cannot see or understand how active it is and with the wait for an account being approved anywhere from days/weeks/months by the time they get access they've likely solved their issue and will never use the account or visit the forum again. This is just my opinion anyway, but I feel boards like the Sales/Wants or things that benefit members might be better off left to members only but build boards, or help boards even event boards should be open they encourage interest and members.
As for your thread, the admins would have to move the thread to General as Pro-Boards at least used to be so bare bones an "advanced" option such as making a single thread in a board visible to all never used to exist at least when I used to use it.

OK, I've copied the thread to the General part of the forum, post-by-post. Perhaps that was the only way to do it?
Cheers, Richard

If you want to attract users to a board, you do that by making all posts visible on a read only basis. If they see content they want to engage with then they register and contribute. A half decent screening process around registration should stop the majority of bots. Guidance on loading photo’s is essential now people have forgotten how to use photo hosting sites. Meanwhile, Facebook will continue to grow and kill the majority of forums.

I'm a bit on the fence on this issue now. I used to be on the side of make it all open to visitors, to encourage interest and new Standard enthusiasts.
But since I joined the Cambridge Oxford Owners Club I can see some of the merit of a closed forum.
Unless you are a paid up COOC club member you cannot access it at all. It is far busier than this forum and quite often there are notifications of non-members getting in touch with the club to offer anything from whole cars to spares to literature etc. In the case of cars, the admin ask for members to get in touch if interested and all contact is passed on to the non-members so they can make contact with whoever they choose.
Perhaps the middle ground is at least a forum with an exclusive members area. I don't know how much of this forum is "view for all", because the restricted access came in since I have registered here.
