The greatest event in the Standard diary. The 48th International Rally is on June 30th and July 1st 2007. With 100 Standards it will be the biggest number you are likely to see in one place. Why risk missing that>? We will entertain you, offer good value food, offer spares and advice, show your car and make you very welcome. It really is the ONE you must go to if you have any interest in Standards even if you do not have a car. We welcome non Club members because we are sure you will want to join when you see what a great bunch we are. Vanguards are celebrating 60 years at the same time so we have a Vanguard feature on the Sunday July 1st. COME ON, MAKE IT A DATE, see you there. Regards Ian.

Hi Ian
We have booked in the Phase 1A ex RAF pick-up (321FXO) . It will be the longest trip we will have done in it.
So hope it will be an uneventful journey

Hi Phil, Do you have a genuine Air Ministry instruction book. I have just acquired (unfortunately) a Vanguard 2 version. If you do not have a 1a version it would make a good feature item. Let me know if you would like it. Regards Ian.

Hi
Yes I have collected a few Air ministry manuals, most are the civilian publications with an Official Label stuck on the cover.
Although i have just purchased a RAF Schedule of Spare parts File with pictures of the RAF versions of Standard vanguards, which I have found very interesting .
Also I have just found an interesting article on the web, about RUDDINGTON which describes the MOD auctions that used to be held there until the mid 1980's. Which mentions standard vanguards being sold off ( Google up Ruddington).
Still no sign of a tilt frame yet!

PG. Ask Brian Shakespeare if he can help in any way. He had a red Vanguard swb with a tilt and not sure if it was the one sold to David Groom who is currently restoring one. Cannot see your Int Rally entry on the Entry List as of 27th May? Regards Ian.

Hi Phil. That is what threw me, John normally comes in a Vanguard 3 Raf. Unfortunately only one other which appears to be in the car section? Brian Marshall with the Series 2 Dambusters logo, there was a promise on a local one from Norfolk which has not materialise yet. I will chase him. Good pics at Brighton, hope the ovrerheating problems are sorted. Regards Ian.

Just in case anyone is interested I have an "excellent condition" Military copy of the Vanguard 3 publication instruction manual, which I am willing to part with (for several gold bars - well maybe just a little bit of one). So any interest get in touch. I still also have a pair of RAF roundels which are transfer type. Tina

Hi Ian
Was just wondering if there are any Standard Vanguard vans booked to attend the International Rally, these seem to be more rare than the pick-ups ?
Intersted to hear about the RAF roundels that Tina is offering, are they the ones to soak in water and slide them off the backing paper,

Hi Phil, There are no vans booked in , as you say, RARE> Mark Denton has one but only goes local in it. (Hampshire). We do have about 22 Vanguard range booked in and that is an achievement. Regards Ian.

The answer to that is very probably, as most transfers are such. I can't look just now as I am not at home, and my home pc is on strike again. I will have a look tonight and see if they are. I bought them on e bay a while ago thinking that someone will want them . The manual is the MOD copy of the same handbook I have for my car, and is in very goog condition with the government orange hard cover. It is not the heavy thick one as in the full workshop manual. Hi Jimmy. In case you did not get the link the Int Rally is at Denny Abbey on the A10 at Waterbeach Cambridge. A Tribute to the Vanguard takes place on the Sunday and a good variety (at least 20) will be there. An invitation was sent to the Vanguard 3 Club but I was told their members were not interested in Rallies. I think differently but we have ne way to contact them. PLEASE COME WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR CAR. You may see that we are the Club that values owners and ALL Standard cars. Regards Ian.

Hi everyone. For anyone who has not been to East Anglia recently, the roads here, although a bit chaotic at times, are reasonably straight forward. So getting to the international rally site this year, if coming from the North, South or West, will almost certainly be either by the A1,(from north) A14, (from West - although the A428 will work from the south west A1m Milton Keyns etc), or M11 from London or further South - M25 to M11, to Cambridge. From there it will just be a case of continuing on the A14 - Eastbound to the A10 runoff sliproad to the roundabout with trafficlights on it. A sharp left turn at the lights up the A10 will get you on the right road. It is then just a run of about 6 miles more past Waterbeach, where there is a white "Tandoori" resturant on the right called The Slap Up' which is easy to see. Keep going for about another 2 miles, passing a set of trafficlights at the north end of Waterbeach,- by the now old airfield, continue and go over the next roundabout by a newish techology park on your left. There is a filling station a little further on the left, and you will shortly pass the entrance to the rally site on the right. However, as this road is usually busy and fast, do NOT try to turn in there but continue about 200 yards further to the next roundabout, and go right round it, then turn left into the site, which will be marked, and is also marked with national trust brown signs. So, no one will have difficulty finding it. Any one who comes from the East will also find that the westbound A14 will get you there, but remember to turn off at the slip road on the left to the very big roundabout and follow the lane markings on the road to the right, then up the A10 as above. Good luck - and do come, it is not hilly here like last years was, so even the elderly cars should not struggle here. Hope to see you all soon -Tina
