Hi Standardians,
In Ausria we have the Carneval as a funny period of the year. The SMC year started with the "710-part" joke and continues now with the Babelfish. I don't want to be misunderstood; I know and use computer translation programs as very powerful and useful tools, but they are tools only, helping you to filter out from some different modifications of a translation the best combination to strike the meaning, while translating into a foreign language. I am not sure, it makes sense in general application.
Having a sophisticated text or one with special expressions translated in your mother tongue results in wonderful jokes and you have to know English very well to find out what originaly was mend. For example: "Edwardian and Grapes Collection" - they use Vintage for that, you do in the vineyards in autumn. And guess what's behind the topic "Pillar Grapes Collection". It's "Post Vintage" with the "post" from the signpost. And "back to post" became "return to pillar", now a different meaning of the word post, but "pillar" seems to be the most common translation for it.
You can't enter the Forum, because it seems, that they try to translate your password. You only get into the General Board. There the translation makes sense in a wide range, only on technical expressions or special constructions it struggles.
Coming to the end, let me tell you what club members you are: the only "Official Standard Motor Club Site" is presented as "Governments Standard Movement Club Errection Place". If you go through all meanings of each single word, you will come to a similar result, including the site, where you build a factory on.
If you know a foreign language very well, get the SMC-page translated into; it's funny!
Regards, Alfred
