I wish our members could be persuaded to come out more often Steve. As an example the Club was offered free entry to the TR Register International Rally at Malvern last weekend on this Forum, on the website and on Facebook and we had 3 Standards present on the Saturday and 2 on the Sunday. One of our members present, who is relatively new to the Club, expressed bewilderment as to why more people didn't take up the offer for what was a superb show, and has written a piece for the Review bemoaning the fact. The same problem occurs with the International Rally.66 Standards from some 950 members turned up which is a shameful turnout. I speak to a lot of people at shows and events and some appear to express surprise that classic cars can be driven to events at all. Some regard a trip to the next county as a major adventure. Why ? I'm going to Darrell Cunningham's event this weekend in my 1952 Vanguard which will be a 250 mile round trip and any 1950s Standard should be capable of that as should some pre war cars. I wish I knew how to get people out with their cars. Peter Lockley

For me, I can't bear the thought of parking up in a field all day looking at other people's cars. I'll happily shoot round a show for an hour or two, beyond that, I get bored. I could do all day at a good auto jumble though.
The rest of my family have less interest in my old car obsession than me. They won't even ride in any of mine.
I have two young kids, a job that keeps me out of the house from 06.00 to 20.00 (on train back now) and two dogs. My time is not my own.
I'll happily turn up to a mixed car meet at a local pub (classics and retro's) where I can be in and out in a couple of hours, but to be honest, I'd rather pull my own teeth out than spend all day at a one make show or heaven forbid, a weekend.
If that's what you like then great - but it's just not for me. I prefer working on the car, offering and asking for advice on forums and driving the things rather than parking them up.
There. I've properly torn the lid off that can of worms....

Well, twixt and between for me. I do not favour a wall to wall one make show - not for me I'm afraid. Too much to learn about the pros and cons of other makes. Having said that, I really enjoy a mixed show at a nice location where one can meet friends, have a natter ( about each other's cars as well if you like) but not having to suffer wall to wall brand x cars where it can resort to becoming excited at comparing the precise location of the thingemyjig. Now, combining a "National Rally" with an open show at a good location ( with local attractions for the ladies) would seem to be the ideal for me. More cats more pigeons, I think! Still, it's only a personal view, and in the end, the percentage member turn out will generally demonstrate the volume desirability of travelling distance x to attend any one-make show I guess.

My Standrive car with allegedly unreliable clutch has done over 3000 miles attending the last four Internationals! Always good to see things up close in addition to keeping in touch via webpages.

A couple of weeks ago I took my 1948 14 DHC down to the Duxford Classic Car Show. After a round trip of about 120 miles I was knackered! With my 1949 Triumph Roadster the trip is less tiring (more comfortable seats, performance, etc.) and taking the MGB is dead easy. However, I get a great deal of pleasure driving the 14 and its dependability is improving. I have applied for an entry to the upcoming Coventry show but because of the distance will probably take the Roadster...............after all it was produced by Standard Triumph. Robin.
