Hi fellow Classic Car owners
I was wondering if there is anywhere that I could review on a regular basis that would indicated where CC Shows and rallies are held?
I live in the West Midlands to the West of Birmingham and the M5. I ask my question because having only entered the classic car 'scene' over the last 2-3 years, most of the shows and run out opportunities I hear of have either already happened or have been advertised to a select few. In most cases by the time I hear of them they are 'full up'.
I would have though having this Forum area it might actually be in members interests to post any display opportunities here for all to see.
I'm not suggesting it is solely the clubs responsibility. I think having this facility suggests to me it is the responsibility of all club members to post events they become aware of. And yes I have become aware of some without sharing so I am equally to blame for perpetuating the situation. So I'd best kick off

Nice one Richard.
That is a useful site and shows well forward planned car shows across the country.
I've also just posted a notification of a group that regularly meet in my area but draw from across the country. And am about to add a few more to the forum to test the water. It would be so good to see more Standards at these shows.
Locally, I only ever see one other. A flying eight owned by Paul Dowson. There just have to be more around on this side of the West Midlands

Hello Mark, Not sure if you have come across a monthly newspaper style publication called Classic Motor Monthly (used to be known as the Autojumbler many years ago). It is available by subscription only and they produce an Almamac annually (usually in Feb.) which lists all the larger - and some of the smaller shows held nationally. Hope this helps, Gareth.

Again you come through again Gareth with great tips.
I'll have a look for it. Seems the information is out there but scattered to the winds so we only catch it by chance. I just wish there were means of keeping track of the many local shows & fairs across the country. I know a gap in the MorrisRegister who tried in his own area but gave up after 6 months because it was taking so much time. I can easily believe it.
If we hear of local shows/ fairs and they've not been mentioned on the SMC pages I think it practical that we tell folks on here. That way we might even start to make the marque more visible.
Seems daft to me we have so many members in my own area and in 3 yrs we've never met up

You are very welcome Mark. I think you have identified a "gap in the market" regarding a lack of co ordinated alerts to local shows.and sometimes national shows. As I see it, the larger national shows are great, but to attend them usually ends up at a long day and not inconsiderable fuel expenses, and it might be me, but I generally find that there can be less interaction from paying public at large shows. Over to small local shows - easy to get to, contact with local people "my dad had one" type contacts - all nice and friendly and informal. Couple this with cheaper petrol cost and the recipe is sound. I see a rosy future for such shows. Back to being alerted Mark:- Try the websites of the largest of clubs - say MG Owners Club. They often have active regional groups who publicise shows they will be attending in their area. I have found they are sometimes happy enough to for you to join them on their runs out as well - an interesting insight into other vehicles. I'm in danger of rambling on again! Kind regards, Gareth.

If you like shows with traction engines etc. (which often also have a classic car section, but also a few other things to see) then check out the National Traction Engine Trust (NTET) site: www.ntet.co.uk/events/rally-list
