When I attend village fetes and car shows with my 1957 Standard 8 I have 'story boards ' in the windscreen displaying the cost of Road Tax in 1957:the cost of a gallon petrol etc. What I would like to find out is the cost of Comprehensive and Third Party insurance in 1957 so I can display that also. I have emailed various car insurance companies for them to provide the info. from their archives but to no avail: can anyone on the Forum recall 1957 Insurance costs please?

It couldn't have been many £s at that time Roger
Wages would have been not more than £15pw . Insurance has in my experience always kept up with how much a week I was paid. At least until I retired
In the early 70s I had any motorbike cover for £15pa. (About my weekly wage at that point). Meaning I could ride any motorbike owned or lent. I think my first car insurance was joint with my sister and cost about £40 for an Austin 1100. (Again around my weekly wage of the day). That would have been 1976. I think the car cost around £250.
Hope this helps on your journey
Mark

I've got an insurance quote of my Father's dated December 1956 quoting third party only insurance for his 1937 Standard 12 as £9 11s 9d for one year, with no no claim bonus. It was £8 12s 6d with i year no claims bonus. Another document of 1965 gives the cost at £26 10s for one year comprehensive insurance with 20% no claims bonus on a 1958 Standard Ensign. Hope this helps with your research

To Shane, I have pictures of the 'story boards' if you still want them. To Markaren76,as you can see Petefoster has provided the insurance information I wanted. I had no luck contacting Insurance companies for the information; once again the Forum 'scores'!
