Hi all
I have been working on a road route around the boundary or Worcestershire. Well, as near as it doesn't matter. There don't seem to be too many road runs in the West Midlands area, so I thought I'd organise some. This is number one. Fingers Crossed. I'm going to ask for it to be advertised in the Standard Review and will put it on FaceBook to drum up some interest.
The circuit is approximately 135miles long, Starts and finishes at a pub half way between Stourbridge and Kidderminster and runs anti-clockwise around the Worcestershire County Boundary. There are several rest stops en-route at points of interest. I just need to finalise the route card and rest point access and it will be done. I estimate the whole journey will take around 8-9hrs including rest stops. There are A, B & C roads to contend with as well as at least one good long hill . The twisty nature of the route might suggest it best to drive with a navigator, or stay close to the car in front.
The intention is to undertake the route in late March or late mid April 2016. REVISED TO 2nd April 2016. I try to work as close to full moons. No, I'm not a werewolf or vampire. My experience has taught me that more stable weather normally occurs at these times.
What I need to know from you is how many of you MIGHT be up for taking part in this little ride out? I can then consider planning for catering, car parks & facilities. Route cards and entry numbers will be provided to each car. Oh yes, and there may be a tiny admin charge to cover refreshments/ route cards, car numbers, but this would not be more that £10 per car if at all.
Thanks for reading
Mark

Good idea Mark, but don't you think that 8 - 9 hours might be a bit too long for most participants?
Can I suggest Sunday 24th April as that is "Drive it Day 2016"
And please don't forget to advertise it on the Club Website too. Regards, Phil

Hi Phil
There will be breaks throughout at different venues so the total driving time will not be that long. The route is a long one around the whole of Worcestershire, and includes a number of smaller lanes hence the speed is limited. For some it will be too long for others not long enough. there are already a number of shorter routes about as we have seen last year. also there are lots of static displays. this one is intended to be mobile and covering a lot of ground.
The initial idea was to enable me to continue to extend the distance I cover in Bertie. Through discussions I found others were also interested. 24th April is a good potential date. I am thinking of running it a couple of times. This one is hopefully for just the SMC.
The difficulty in pushing it forward in time is it will inevitably clash with other dates. I'm not sure there is a perfect date for everyone.

I have been contacted by the folk at some of the 5 stage venues and they have said they are already booked for the Drive it Day events so cannot accommodate this run.
With this in mind I've revised the date to weekend of the 26-27th MARCH 2015. whether it is the Saturday of Sunday depends on the numbers attending and the access to the venues
I have the same distance and time issues with event on the eastern side of the country. Most good driving days take place in the East Midlands, East Anglia or South. Thats why I'm trying to set something up in this area
Not sure how it will be taken up in the SMC. I have folk in local 'all marque' clubs interested so I can fall back on them.
It would be nice to see some of the Standards in this district coming out though. they seem to be rarely seen.

Hi Mark,
Great idea and route! Count me in! Personally, I would prefer the Sunday but will happily go with the majority.

Hi Tony
Shorter day on the Sunday due to the clocks going forward that weekend. Not a problem as far as I can tell the roads may be quieter on the Sunday too.
Depending on the entrees it may be practical to start at a point to suit the majority. That's the Beauty of circular routes. You can start anywhere.

Mark, not practical for me (I have to do a 200 mile round trip in the 'modern' just to get to where the Standard lives!) but good luck.
Some of us in the club were thinking of doing Lands End - John O'Groats in our Standard 10s a couple of years ago (6x10 for the 60th anniversary); it nearly happened but various things stopped us (becoming a Dad, in my case!). Maybe we'll revive the idea for the 70th, so look after Bertie for us as it will need to be 7x10 for that one!
I did do a 760-mile round trip to Dorset in mine for the 2006 'International' Rally.
So yes, some of us are up for getting the miles in if circumstances permit. I can quite appreciate that it's more difficult for owners of older cars though.

I do rather like this idea of the lands end run and will do my best to be there with you for it.
Meanwhile there are a few hiccups for the Worcestershire Boundary Circuit. It looks like a couple of the venues are already booked up and cannot take more visitors over that weekend. Best made plans and all that jazz. So I'm looking for alternative days.
The "Drive it day" had been suggested (24th April 2016). I had tried to keep away from it due the number of events going on that day. This might not be avoidable if this is going to go ahead in spring.
Any thoughts?

I'm currently investigating running the drive on Saturday 2nd April 2016. Hope this does not disappoint
Co-ordinating the venues is a real game.

Dear all
I can confirm the first Worcestershire County Boundary Classic Car Tour will take place on Saturday 2nd April. HOWEVER!!!!!
Maybe I have been a bit naive about the interest this tour has generated. The potential uptake for spaces could be higher than the 40 or so maximum I considered. As a result I am considering setting a second date for the tour. I'm currently looking at the end of April 2016. However, I cannot set a date before I have the numbers to accommodate it. So let me know if you are interested. If there is sufficient I may be able to set the added date start/finish point in the East or South of the county. Let me know what you think
My limiting factor is car park space availability at rest points and the need to not block roads with convoys.
I will not be able to confirm the added date until numbers have been provided by attendees. watch this space
