Hi all,
I’m a new Standard owner from Sweden.
The car I have is a Flying Standard 9, Left Hand Drive from 1937 (early model, commission#9A) and it has been in the family since new.
The car has been stored and not driven for +50 years, but it’s in a good original shape both mechanically, exterior and interior. The car is also fully documented since new.
The last years I have done a minor restoration and the car is now back on the roads again, with a Swedish MOT and registration. Thanks to the Clubs Web Shop and this forum I have got the few parts and information I needed.
I have but some photos of the car here: Pictures of Swedish Flying 9
I’m now trying to look into the history of “Swedish-built” flying standards, but I can’t find much information. Therefor I have some questions that I hope you can answer.
1. The car is according to the documentation I have assembled in Sweden by Autoropa in 1937. Autoropa had a car factory in Malmö and was at the time owned by “Bohnstedt-Petersen AS” in Denmark.
Two of the photos shows letters from Autoropa between 1938-41. They are in swedish but the letterhead says.
Autoropa
The Car Factory - Malmö
“Swedish Built Cars -Hudson -Terraplane –Federal - Renault - Flying Standard”
There is also an “Autoropa Plate” mounted on the car. Se photos.
I can’t find any information on the Clubs site about LHD Flying 9 being assembled in Sweden or Denmark. The only thing I can find is that LHD Flying 8 where assembled by “Bohnstedt-Petersen AS” in Denmark.
Does anyone know something about this?
2. The car is left hand drive and the speedometer is in km/h. I can’t find any Left Hand Drive prewar Flying Standard on the Clubs web-site. I would appreciate any information of how many LHD Prewar Flying Standards that is still around. The information I have is that there is no LHD Flying 9 in Sweden, except for mine. Any in Denmark maybe?
Thanks / Ola
