Hello, first time poster in this forum, The air cleaner shown in these pictures from the 1967 EMPI VW catalog shows the one missing element of VW Shorrock Supercharger. Nobody has one, it's the distinctive original air cleaner that came with the EMPI Shorrock Kit. Nobody seems to know if it was specifically made for the kit (seems unlikely) or if an off the shelf aftermarket air cleaner was used. It has been suggested it looks like one used on the Standard 10. Can anyone confirm this or perhaps provide another link for me to chase?

Hi,
I have the "small round" AC filter for a 50's 8/10 somewhere but from memory it looks to be smaller than the one shown (using the Stromberg as a size comparison). The filter was stamped AC and looked similar in shape but had the intake holes around the side near the top. It was designed to sit on top of a Solex 26 or 28 ZIC carb which is quite small so not sure if it would be large enough to fit the inlet pipe for your application. I will have a quick look today for mine and post a picture with some dimensions so you can at least rule it out.
AC did some larger ones in the same style as the 8/10, but not seen one with holes on the bottom - others may have. However, a lot of smaller industrial engines of the era - think larger cement mixers, dumper trucks, generator sets etc had similar style/size air filters. I have one on a single cylinder Lister Diesel. As far as I can remember these had holes around the bottom. A lot had replaceable paper elements but some of the earlier ones were of the wire mesh/oil bath type- though due to the horizontal mounting yours is not an oil bath one, might be worth a look on some of the farm machinery / old timer / industrial websites for ideas??
Good luck in your search.
Roger

Good luck in your search. Roger Thanks for that insight Roger. My sphere of expertise begins and ends with aircooled VWs so I'm really shooting blind when it comes to industrial engines. Googling for images of generic air cleaners returns next to nothing of interest, I think I need to find a different line of enquiry but anything you can suggest will be a help.
