I am nearly ready for carpet ordering, wondered what colour to order. The interior colour is coffee matching the coffee of the exterior, Has anyone experience of these colours and what would have been the colour of the original carpets, if carpets were originally fitted. Thanks Mike p.s. they are for a Companion

Most cars had rubber mats and these are probably well gone. Some cars, even those with rubber mats had carpet on the bottom 6 inches of the door card. So you could go by that colour or start afresh. Carpets make the car a lot quieter. There are 3 qualities of carpet and even the cheapest is excellent. www.standardmotor.club/50s-carpets-trim-and-trim-sundries-il-419Phil

The parts book for the 1958 onwards Companion gives Coffee as one of the 4 carpet colours (the 4 colours given are Matador Red, Midnight Blue, Phantom Grey and Coffee) for models after BE135001, so if your trim colour is coffee it looks like it would have had coffee coloured carpet as well. I had a Coffee & white Pennant which had remnants of the original coffee coloured carpet.

But I disagree with matching the carpet on the lower part of the door cards; both of mine have red interiors with (originally) red rubber mats, but those bits of door carpet are in a contrasting colour (fawn or similar). I went for red carpet to match the original rubber matting; if you have nothing original to go on I would seek to match the seats.

My door cards don't have any carpet at all on the bottom, I think they are the originals but who knows. I will try to match to the seats which are a coffee colour, the door cards are also coffee, so a coffee colour it is for carpets. Thanks Mike
