What a good International Rally it was in 2008. Ideal weather nice location and beautiful road run views. What makes it great though is the people with their cars and there was a cheerful atmosphere the whole weekend. I love convoying with other Standards so it was good that we were able to start with three cars and picked up one other and then later two more on the way to the venue. One down side, it is all over too quickly. So time to think about next year and how to make it even better. Why not put your thoughts here about what you would like to see at an International Rally. Regards Ian.

I got back late yesterday after spending time in Stratford and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend. I liked the road runs which took in some beautiful country side and set challenges for the car which it doesn't experience in Cambridgeshire! My thanks to all concerned. Regards Steve

Yes indeed, an excellent event and the weather held out (almost) to the end, just a few spots during the prize-giving. I think the road runs were the highlight as we are a Club who likes to drive our cars - and as Steve said the hills gave our cars a good workout (down as well as up !!) and the views and villages were perfect. It was great that we also coordinated arrival routes with 6 of us eventually converging just outside Northampton from the east and I know of some hard work that went on to help get fellow owners on the road in time. Well done to all the organisers for a smooth event - it all went too fast with not enough time to meet all the old friends and talk "Standard" - perhaps the 50th should be over a Bank Holiday and get it in the Calendars now ?

Car got a right soaking on the way home... covered 199 miles in total (round trip) which was a bit less than expected, and didn't once go on a motorway (it took longer but was more fun). A good weekend overall - I counted no less than 28 8s/10s/Pennants/variants on Sunday, which must be some sort of a record? And I think every major variant was represented, including a very nice left hand drive 8 which had come all the way from the Netherlands.
Where were all the flyers though? And indeed the Vanguards? Both groups seemed to be a bit thin on the ground...
Looking forward to next year. I have the Rempstone Steam & Country show and the Bluebell Railway's Vintage Transport Festival to visit before then, though. Will mine be the only Standard at those events, I wonder?

Yes a good time was had by all I believe. Every part of the country has some gems waiting to be visited and locals planning the runs are the ones to find them. A three hour burst got us home with the trailer a lot lighter than when going, and yes I did use the M1 this time to get speed up. The weekend saw 500 miles added to the clock, and the trailer took its toll on petrol consumption, down to 20mpg. Now the efforts are on to find a good venue for next year. Any thoughts anyone? Regards Ian

Don't forget if you want to see Flyers come to either New Forest Show and see the Stand of New Forest Group 27,28,29 July or 7oth anniversary of the 8 at Beaulieu on August 9th.

My crystal ball is out of order......
You should not be suprised to be the only Standard at these two events. Thats because you havn't ask the club to publicise them so no members can know anything about them.
If you want people to join you I suggest you let them know about the events and their dates, not keep them a secret, then complain because no-one turns up. Both the magazine and the website can add your events to our listings but not if you dont tell us.

Phil, Fair comment, but they're not "my" events, one is my parents' local show and is really aimed mainly at traction engines and agricultural machinery, the other is something I was invited to and felt I should attend as I let them down for their 125th anniversary show last year as the car was in bits. In both cases the cars they're after are a complete mish-mash of everything, but I believe entries for both are now closed. If anyone is interested for future years I will be sure to pass on details of the organisers - just ask. It wasn't a complaint anyway! Phil
