Thanks to a tip from Ian I was able to get an insurance quote that was half of what Footman James quouted. My Standard 8 is now insured with RH for £74 per year fully comp incl. breakdown cover. FJ wanted £156. Pay attention to what Ian says - it can save you money!

A GOOD TIP. Join the Standard Motor Club, then get your car, and then ask about Insurance from the members who have found out the hard way. It will save you more than the yearly membership fee and you will get all the advice and help that we can. Thank you Michael for putting your appreciation in print. Regards Ian.

;D Hi, to add my 2 pennyworth to the classic car insurance debate. I have all three of my cars insured with Peter Best Insurance, and I pay just 64.00 pounds a year for each of them. That is fully comp, with both road side assistance, and full Green Flag recovery to home - etc. and includes a discount for multi car ownership. I realise, having said that, someone else will immediately chime in and say they get theirs for 63.00 (or less), but in the end you makes your choice and pays your money accordingly.
There are some companies who do charge a lot 'over the odds' for insuring classic cars (who are far less likely to be getting driven by hooligans- unless you know differently). I was once quoted over 200.00 ( sorry my office P.C has no pound sign in it!) for my then Mk4-1500 cc Spitfire, (by a company with a name like a famous WW2 RAF bomber) - and they even refused to quote me for a 'Bond Equip' -(a fiberglass bodied Herald) - but when I then went to PB Ins. it was about 45.00 at the time - (12 years ago) so guess who I went to from then on? I feel quite happy with that company. Regards Tina
