Hi Gio, Good to have another 8 owner with us. Ask as many questions as you like. We have spares galore but you will have to join the Standard Motor club to get them. You can download a membership form from this website. NOTE. Before you accept an insurance quote contact me here. Get quotes from a couple of companies but do not accept until you have spoken, I can probably save you money. Secondly if you mark my NAME ON TOP RIGHT HAND CORNER OF MEMBERSHIP FORM and let me know the membership number when you have your new member pack, I will send you a book (value£8) free with lots about your car. Hope that helps, Ian.

Thanks a lot Ian, I will join club, just got home with standard 8, had supper cuddled ill wife {not serious, tonsils}cuppa in hand and now she is upstairs asleep wifey, not car of course. Drove PSK 101 from stoke- on- trent to New mills Derbyshire, up and over the hills she ambled coasting the steeper hills just out of Leek toward Buxton. I felt like a kid with my new toy, all day i had been looking forward to this. 50 MINUTES TOget BACK, THE SAME TIME IT TOOK TO CATCH A TRAIN TO STOCKPORT AND THEN TO STOKE- ON -TRENT. I had my eye on this on ebay and the more i looked the more i wanted it, then researched a little and thought what the hell worst is i can sell for spares repairs, but i think it's better than that, bit of patching done, but frankly very little, pretty original actually, seen worse Minors and Amazons oh and Heralds, having owned them also. She seems to run great no rattles or vibrations, cant lock back door though, and she has one small fault ,she slips out of third gear any clues anyone?. I took out insurance with RH,£58 fully comp me and misses. Anyway great forum praise to you, look forward to meeting a few of you in near future. cheers Gio

Hi Gio. It was RH that I would have sent you to. Footman James would probably have been over £100. Back door lock lever may have a worn or damaged item, need to remove door panel to see. Have you got a workshop manual? Assume you have wind up windows. Regards Ian.

Hi Ian, Did read a thread on here mentioning RH, and also have them for another vehicle and used them for various other old cars i have owned, and even had a claim with no problems through them, thanks though. With regard to door locks , a handy mechanic pal of mine has sorted rear nearside and front too, with rear far side being sorted in morning, he is brill at tedious problem solving like this. I was busy today and didnt want a repeat of last night when awoken at 2am by 3 year old daughter needing a drink. I decided afterwards to look outside my front door and noticed someone had opened and left opened the front and rear far side doors danmed peski teenagers ,nothing damaged though thankfully. many thanks for 3rd gear thing glad nowt serious.( NO MANUUAL AND YES WIND UP WINDOWS THAT NEED SORTING TOO) bye for now Gio

Hi Gio. Better get a workshop manual then a lot of problems will be answered (and solved) by looking them up. £20 inc postage. Regards Ian.

Hi Gio, Not long joined myself-Hi Ian.I've just got (over) involved with an eight (54). I too purchased mine on ebay! I only went on there to buy a fuel pump for my Caddy and ended up with my Standard instead. (dear old fuel pump) and it doesn't fit!! Handy to keep in the trunk of the Cad tho! My gearbox also jumps out of 3rd gear. Is this a common fault, and does anybody know if there is some little trick to fix this or is it a 'gearbox out' job? (tricky little manouvre) I've been told. Nearly finished restoring mine. Just waiting for my new seats to come back from the upholsterers. Bodywork was 'primer grey' but is now lavishly painted in pearlescent aubergine metallic!! Sorry to all you purists!!!!!! Ians fault- He said all grey cars get the walk by treatment.Kept it all standard apart from that. Regards, Kevin.
