Hi everyone, can someone tell me exactly where to find the chassis plate on a 1939 Flying 8. My dad has one (with an Ashley body which was fitted in the 50's). Problem is he's lost the original log-book and V5, so we need to find the chassis no. The car is difficult to get under because it's half buried in the garden, so if we knew exactly where to look... Now that he has retired he wants to have it restored - and not before time! Thanks Trevor

Hi. The numbers you want are found by opening the off side bonnet. There is not a stamp on the chassis. The commission number is on a plate on the bulkhead and the engine number is on the block on the same side. It would be advisable to register this car urgently and the club can help/. The old documents become invalid on July 1st 2005 and there is a danger of losing the number plate if new documents are not issued. Go to Club Page DVLA Officer Mike Randall if you require this service. You do not have to be a Club Member for this but if you are to undertake a restoration then you will need the club advice and spares service to help you along. You can drop down a Membership application Form also from this site. Regards Ian. Ps I have Maintenance books, Instruction Books, Lubrication and wiring Charts for this model in stock. Go to Regalia Section to contact me or through this page. Regards Ian Leggett.

If the Flying 8 body has been removed, the commission plate will have gone with it.......................no use looking.

Phil

Thanks for the replies. The number will have gone with the body-work, so a lot of otherwise wasted time spent searching for it has been saved. The original 1939 log-book came with the car when he bought it around 20 years ago, and he registered the car then (just before Swansea started reclaiming old registrations back). Unfortunately the log-book and V5 have disappeared, so he spent most of yesterday trying to contact the DVLA and he has now sorted it out with them. If he can get someone to repair the grp body we'll go ahead and restore the chassis ourselves, so he'll join the club if all goes to plan. Can I ask if the club has a list of parts in stock which is available to members, and also whether rarer items like steering wheels are available as well as the more common items. Thanks again Trevor

If the original documents have been lost its highly likely that you will get a "Q" plate for a kit car. If you dont want that, the club may be able to help to get an age related plate. The Club's DVLA Rep will be able to advise. www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/club/dvla.htmSo far as spares are concerned, there isn't presently a published list of things available as there is too much stock and it is constantly changing. www.standardmotorclub.org.uk/sales/club_spares.htmThe steering wheel might not be from a Standard , of course Hope this helps, Phil
