Can anyone tell me where I can get an elderly leaver arm hydraulic jack overhauled? My old one after about 30 years is no longer jacking up, even with fresh fluid in it. I have had to buy another one which is smaller and dosn't lift so high as my old one. I live near Cambridge, so info on somewhere preferably near here would be best. I have looked in local yellow pages and on the net, but so far can't find anyone who actually can or will do that. Any ideas? Tina

I think seal kits for old jacks are hard to come by, thats why Google doesn't find anyone in the UK who fixes them. Machine Mart have a big range, including high-lift ones, very reasonably priced. www.machinemart.co.uk/ranges.asp?g=107&r=2047and there are dozens new on ebay, as usual. Hope that helps. Phil

Thanks Phil, I have seen them on e bay, it's just that I was very attached to the thing after about 30 years, that I am reluctant to retire it entirely. I do realise that the time may well have come for that now though. I will now probably look for another one, as I do find a need for two jacks quite often, Tina

Most Hydraulic jacks use common "O" rings to seal the piston. I would open it up and see if this is the case with the one you have. There may also be teflon style rings if the jack is high capacity (more than 5 tons) The O-rings should be available throught industrial supply houses, fasteners and the like. If you still have problems sourcing try www.macmastercarr.com They are a large US industrial supplier and have just about every thing, including the kitchen sink.
