Hi everyone, I read an article recently on an EEC change to seatbelt regulations due to come in to force this year. It seems that on older cars like ours and the very old ones, that no child can be carried in (or on in the case of veterains) any car without being properly restrained with propperly fitted belts. This may well affect any families who normally attend rallies etc with the kids. it could mean that if your car has no belts, as two of mine have, then you can't bring kids to events even if they are in the back, and behaving themselves. Many cars were never built with belts or anywhere to fix them to for that matter. EEC is meddling again I think :-/just for the sake of meddling with something! Tina

Tina,
I would be grateful if you could let me have a copy of the offending article please. I hope its rumour or just a proposal.
This is the sort of thing that the FHBVCC will fight against, as it would restrict the freedom of individuals to choose to use "our" cars. Send me the article immediately, and if true, I am sure it is something that won't be introduced without a fight
Regards,
Phil

Hi. I have just read the latest FBHVC newsletter and there is no mention of this. There will always be consultation on these matters and the lobbyist is always there to ensure we know well in advance. The EEC makes all sorts of proposals and then makes it clear afterwards that NONE OF THESE ARE RETROSPECTIVE. This means if the car should have when built, or has had fitted later, then belts must be used. If not fitted then they are not required. There is a rule that UNDER FIVE YEAR OLD are not allowed in the front without belts. The press pick up lots of points and then headline them but 95% are rumours and never come into law. Hope this helps. Ian.
