Once your ancient Standard has passed it MOT ( vehicle last on the road in the sixties) and you have got you insurance cover note in your hand do you have to pay the full road fund duty in advance and then get it refunded when the powers that be ammend the data base to change the vehicle taxation class from unlicenced to exempt, or do you just remind the people at the post office that a vehicle built before the 2nd world war should be exempt.

I have experienced this myself with an older registration document which classified the car as "Private Light Goods". If you take the document to the post office they will either refuse to deal with it or you will have to pay the Road Tax, because it is PLG, regardless of its age. If however, you take it and the MoT to your nearest DVLA office, they will amend the computer there and then to "Exempt"and issue a tax disk immediately, for free. You will get a new Reg Document a few days later through the post. My experiece was pre-SORN so the rules might be different now. You can find your nearest DVLA office by clicking here www.dvla.gov.uk/local/lo_map.htmHope to see more about your interesting vehicle soon? Regards, Webmaster

Thanks for your help. A visit to the Post office this week will no doubt result in me parting with some hard earned only to be refunded at a later date.

I went down the Post office today with my Mot, Insurance and V5C expecting to have to pay for a tax disc but no, the bar code on the V5C was read electronically and 'the system' stated that no duty was due despite the V5C listing the vehicle as NOT LICENSED and not HISTORIC VEHICLE EXEMPT. The V5C was updated manually by the counter assistant and signed by myself to be sent off and updated at Swansea. All done in minutes with no unnecessary form filling.

Hi Dennis. The 14 and especially the drop head is much sought after in the UK. Is it possible to send some pictures and some full details and we will arrange for an advert to go in our Club magazine which will reach 750 members worldwide. You could scan the pics on this site or send them direct to the editor at editor@standardmotorclub.org.uk Either way please keep in touch on this site for a while. Regards Ian.
