I have just bought a standard 10 with Stan drive. Reg number 560CPJ. There was little information about the cars life other than the original logbook and a few bills but nothing that showed the history in any detail. I’ve just got the reg doc back and it’s only showing 2 former keepers from new. I know the last keeper had it only for a matter of weeks as they had bought it as a present and the recipient didn’t like it which would suggest it may be a one owner car ? Would the club know if this car was owned by anyone in the club or indeed if it’s known by anyone. Should I write to the address in the original logbook ? Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Hello ?, Can we take it the 'original log book' is indeed the one issued when the car was new, rather than a 'Continuation' one?
The car would have been first registered in the Surrey area in April/May of 57, and if the car was indeed a one owner car apart from the person you bought it off, then I would guess the chances of contact with that person are slim - say a young 20 year old when it was purchased new (unlikely) then they would now be 81.
You may be lucky if the surname is unusual, by finding some living family members still in the area who may just remember it in its later years. Worth a try.
Know to the club at any time! Kind regards, Gareth.

The number of former keepers on the V5C might only be the tally since records got computerised in the mid 80s. Or even more recently than that if the car was off the road at some point and then re-registered.

It’s the original reg number. It says 2 owners from first reg in 1957 ? There’s definitely two owners and I believe the second owner sold the car in the last year. I’m trying to make contact now.

Yes it was a Surrey address. Have the original buff logbook with all the tax stamps.

Hello? (what's you name by the way?)
Thanks for coming back on this. I'm with Phil on the subject of V5s and a high potential for inaccuracies in respect to the number of previous owners, but in your case you are going from 'documented evidence' via. the buff log book. Just to be absolutely clear, are we talking the original buff log book here or a continuation book? Original books were often exhausted by tax stamps and not necessarily by changes of ownership.
Anyway, assuming we are talking the genuine 'issued when new' log book :- As I said, the chances of the original keeper still being with us is probably slim. Surviving family? Obviously possible. Same area? Possible, I guess.
Is the surname somewhat unusual, which would allow you to do some chasing via directory enquiry? This could be a worthwhile exercise - one which I would attempt.
If you don't succeed via. that route, it would be worth looking up a current weekly newspaper covering the Surrey area in question, and setting up an article for them. I've done this in the past with some success- and some failure! But well worth a go.
I must say, I applaud your interest in delving into the history of this car. Many just don't bother, and being just the 'current custodians' of these vehicles at some point in time, to me, comes a responsibility for documenting their history.
It would be great if you could keep us informed. Kind regards, Gareth.
