hi and welcome.
petrol tank lifts out from the boot. open the boot and lift up any floor covering. the tank is secured by a number of spire bolts around the edge. you obviously have to disconnect the outlet pipe, filler hose and breather tube, also the guage sender wire.
be careful with it, replacements are as rare as hensteeth. there is a seal around where the tank meets the spare wheel well.
once cleaned it maybe worth considering a tank sealant to seal the tank and prevent further corrosion.

If the tank’s not been out for a long time, don’t be surprised if you find holes where the bottom seals against the spare wheel well.

Take the spare wheel out and shine a torch down there. You’ll see the back face of the wheel well is closed off where the bottom of the tank seals against the top of the floor pan. The joint uses what looks like a hemp gasket. Mine needed a bolster chisel pushing into the joint to be real the seal. This shows the hole when the tank comes out. You can see the lip of the wheel well (which some previous owner painted white And here’s the hole in the tank that was revealed.

The car is sitting on two extended axle stands under the rear axle. The other two axle stands you can see towards the top left are not extended and not supporting the car, they’re just sitting there. I jack it up with a trolley jack under the back of the sills.

I use photobucket. There used to be a lengthy sticky post explaining how to put pictures up but it was removed some time ago.

If you can find someone with a concrete mixer you could fill the fuel tank with some sharp gravel along with vinegar or a citric acid solution, seal it up and let it turn for a couple of hours in the mixer as the drum rotates.
