The Standard Motor Club New Forest Group has announced that its Classic Charity Car Drive will take place on SUNDAY 26th April. The organisers are hoping to make this popular event even more successful this year, with 100+ cars taking part. Drive It Day is always held on the nearest Sunday to the 23rd April. This date was chosen in 2005 to commemorate when 65 cars set off from London on 23rd April 1900 on the first Thousand Mile Trial, organised by the Automobile Club. The Trial started in London and went through Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Derby, Kendal, Carlisle, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham and back to London. It left from Grosvenor Place, London. By Edinburgh 51 were still running, and 35 vehicles made it back to London. The New Forest Group believe this incredible undertaking deserves an annual celebration, and all makes are welcome to assemble from 10am at The Luzborough Public House A2057 SO519AA to sign in and obtain route map and when bacon butties and coffee will be available. Cars will start off from 11.30am for a leisurely drive through the beautiful lanes and villages of Hampshire and Wiltshire, arriving back at The LUZBOROUGH for an optional late Sunday Lunch. There is no charge however a donation Bucket will be on hand in aid of a local charity. For more details telephone Darrell on 01794 389165, 07773 337583 or email press.standardmotorclub@gmail.com
