Hi - As several of you are aware that I had some boiling bother with both my Vanguard 3 (that I had fully prepared for the event) and "Penny" my Pennant (which I hadn't) - en route to Bovingdon. With "V3" (that's its' name), boiling up in the A1 roadworks, and having to go home to swap over to "Penny" ( stupidly thinking it would be better) wich had not been used since the Anglian run, and those roadworks again en route, the trip took me over 320 miles and 13 very frustrating hours. Back home, after using lots of water, I flushed it out and put new heater pipes on it. Then I found the thin steel cylinder-head gasket was leaking water out at the rear. So it looks like yet another head off this coming week to mend it. "Penny" went totally unprepared and looked very scruffy, - and still is. (I wonder just why "V3" boiled up as well, in the same roadworks near the Black Cat roundabout). I hope its' head gasket is OK - although the symptoms seem like they are the same as "Pennys' " . HUMM! (must check the head bolts torque setting but - I have 2 shows this weekend and several more shows booked into till October)
My particular thank-you goes to 'Reg and Marg' from South Wales - a lovely couple - who were kind enough to offer me a seat in their lovely gleaming black Flying 10 for the road run, as it was obvious that my "Penny" just did not want to go. I had always fancied a trip in a flying 10, and was not disapointed. (all that legroom in the rear).
After Hardys monument - (superb views), and lunch in Abbotsbury, we went into Weymouth for the afternoon - a real holiday town if ever there was one - my first time there.
I carried a lot of water in "Penny" on the way home, but still had to stop every 5-10 miles or so to top it up, and took 6 1/2 hours, diverting past those pesky roadworks via the A603. The Tank museum was really great, and I hope to see you all again next year - in our patch for a change, Tina
